BASE (BatterBattery Passport for Resilient Supply Chain and Implementation of Circular Economyy Passport for Resilient Supply Chain and Implementation of Circular Economy):
The project acronym BASE (Battery Passport for Resilient Supply Chain and Implementation of Circular Economy) involves a consortium of 19 organizations. The project aims to develop, validate, and implement digital battery passport services, mandated by regulations, within the framework of a resilient supply chain and the promotion of a circular economy. Through the collection and utilization of data within the project, the goal is to establish a transparent, secure, and cost-effective platform. It is noteworthy that this project was funded under the "HORIZON-CL5-2023-D2-02-03: Creating a digital passport to track battery materials, optimize battery performance and life, validate recycling, and promote a new business model based on data sharing (Batt4EU Partnership) call," emphasizing its alignment with Horizon 2023 initiatives.
The proposed Battery Passport (BP) framework leverages blockchain technology, employing a decentralized data system managed by economic operators. This includes smart contracts, securities, public blockchain, and off-chain storage, with an ontology-based BP enhancing transparency. The electronic identification system for batteries provides vital information on performance, durability, safety, ESG metrics, manufacturing history, and origin, encouraging extended lifespan and facilitating recycling. Coordinating digital systems across the value chain, an online platform fosters information exchange, tracking the battery lifecycle for various applications. Catena-x technology and the Gaia-X trust framework enhance the platform's integrity. The platform not only serves as a valuable tool for government policymaking and civil society but also issues a certification emblem for batteries, empowering responsible consumer choices and promoting circularity through standard-setting quality seals.
